What we're hoping for with the CSDDD

Today the #CSDDD is having it's final round of negotiations in the European Parliament! Wow, that sounds boring, but it's a super important piece of #ESG legislation, so we'll be following closely🍿

A quick primer: It's an ambitious piece of ESG legislation that mandates companies to do due diligence and take action on the sustainability in their supply chains.

To the wise reader it's essentially an EU-wide and more ambitious version of the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG) and similar regulation in a few other European countries.

Recall that supply chains are responsible for 40% of global emissions, and a vast share of our social and environmental problems - that's why we need this.

So what are we hoping for?

1️⃣ A DEAL. ASAP. We simply cannot wait longer.

2️⃣ A wider definition of environmental harm than that of the LkSG, incl. climate change and biodiversity.

3️⃣ A risk-based approach. As we know first-hand from the LkSG and our own work, supply chains are complicated, and we cannot centrally regulate how to do our due diligence. A risk-based approach makes this more flexible so we can adapt to the materiality of individual suppliers, and prioritise and focus on impact.

Let's see if we get an early Christmas present 🎁
