AB InBev latest #sustainableprocurement PR is too high-level and polished to conclude on their actual sustainability; yet there's a few relevant takeaways from the report:
1️⃣ #Localisation and #diversification of suppliers is an important sustainable procurement goal in itself. This is especially true when procuring for markets with high poverty, where local sourcing provides much needed support for the local economy.
2️⃣ Bonus side effect that more localised sourcing typically result in lower #emissions from transportation.
3️⃣ The risk reduction mindset that's being pushed by most supply chain sustainability legislation (e.g. #LkSG) has the unfortunate effect of promoting less localisation, as larger suppliers from more developed nations often are seen as having lower human rights risk (lots of nuance here).
