Biodiversity vs. decarbonization

"#Climate is global, #biodiversity is local"

I'm at the #responsiblebusiness conference by Reuters , right now listening to Isabelle SULTAN , chief sustainability officer at Dior.

Interesting point from Isabelle that biodiversity goals are fundamentally different from #decarbonization goals.

In biodiversity, not all reduction is created equally. E.g. reducing water usage in a highly stressed water environment is more important than reducing water usage in a non stressed environment.

Obvious, yes, but fundamentally different to how we deal with carbon reduction, where we're optimizing for absolute reduction numbers.

With biodiversity, we need to focus on impact areas. Back to water usage, using data from e.g. #Aqueduct to focus on water stressed environments.

Hence an increased focus on using contextual/risk data to help you focus - not dissimilar to how we work with #humanrights in the supply chain.
