Are we trying to "boil the ocean" when attacking ESG in the supply chain?

Biggest takeaway from day 1 of the #ResponsibleBusiness conference yesterday? #Sustainability professionals are overwhelmed.

Overwhelmed by the scope of sustainability (one day they need to be experts in #emissions, the next day #modernslavery or #biodiversity).

Overwhelmed by the speed and fragmentation of #regulation, #reporting requirements and #standards development - the goal post keeps moving.

Overwhelmed by their #supplychain and how looking beyond their own ops 10x the complexity.

Our biggest recommendation? Root yourself in data, #materiality and risk analysis. If you do the work to understand where what topics are at risk, you have a baseline for 80/20 prioritization that you can return to as priorities, regulation, etc shifts. This is especially applicable to your supply chain.

Without it, you end up in the old consulting saying of the impossible task of trying to "boil the ocean".
